St. Paul UCC Mission

In workshops and meetings, a group in the congregation has been identifying a few words that describe how we see ourselves and our congregation’s activities. Then we set out to craft a mission statement based on four of these words: care, nurture, mission, and laughter.

Mission and Service are crucial to the identity of our congregation. See the page "Our Congregation Serves" on this website. We collect items for Camp Washington UCC, Bethany House, SON Ministries, and other services. As part of our Sunday School program, one Sunday per month, out youth are working on a service project.

Nurture and Care reflect the love we have within our congregation. Members visit our shut-ins. Cards of care are sent to those who are struggling with health or other issues. We nurture those in our congregation through fellowship activities like our new Young Adult Network, and our adult Christian education programs.

How many times do we laugh during our worship services and meetings? This is a unique and special piece of St. Paul UCC’s identity. Laughter and Joy reflect who we are as we journey together.

Unity through Diversity describes the viewpoints of St. Paul UCC. We have a variety of perspectives theologically, politically, etc. Yet we all come together on Sunday mornings to celebrate our faith and our great loving God. We can disagree without being disagreeable. We reflect the UCC’s vision of autonomous perspectives while being in covenant with one another.

Lastly, at the center of all we do is experiencing and sharing the love of Christ. The heart of Jesus’ message is to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and all your mind" and to "love your neighbor as yourself." With this command by Jesus, we Carry Christ’s Love to All and continue to share this love with our neighbors. Last month, the team working on this Mission statement delivered cookies and greetings to our neighboring businesses. We are looking at new way to bring love to those in our community and world.
